The Flow State
a state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else matters, the experience is so enjoyable that people will continue to do it even at a great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.
How do I enter a flow state? How do I become more focused and achieve more during the day? How do I make the most of my day? How can I more efficiently achieve my long term goals?
How to enter Flow State
1. CLARITY OF GOAL
Before you do something, there needs to be a set of clear micro and macro goals.
What do you want to get out of the activity you are doing?
Know when and where the finish line is.
Don’t just ‘work’ to ‘work’.
What is the overall purpose of you doing your work?
2. CHALLENGE
The goal and the task needs to be challenging enough.
if the challenge is really low and your skills are really high, or vice versa, you wont be able to enter flow state.
There needs to be a balance of challenge and your skill for you to enter flow state.
3. DISTRACTION IS THE ENEMY OF FLOW
keep all distractions away.
put your phone away from you.
isolate yourself from other people, devices, etc.
4. IT TAKES TIME
Be patient!
mastering entering flow takes time.
you have to build yourself up into flow.
There will be resistance right when entering flow.
Entering flow state is a skill. In order to master flow state, you need to practice it.
